‘Working with the Combat Veteran Population’ will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Aug. 7 at the Lorenzo Cultural Center, 44575 Garfield Road, Clinton Township. The center is at MCC’s Center Campus.
Designed to help veterans re-adjust to life after their service, the program will feature such topics as: deployment issues, behavioral health, post-deployment medical and environmental concerns; vocational rehabilitation services; and the post 9/11 G.I. Bill.
Scheduled speakers from the VA include; Dr. Melva Coleman, program manager; Herbert Thomas Jr., employment specialist; Dr. Christian Schutte, neuropsychologist; and Dr. Saroj Chowdhury, primary care provider for veterans returning from Afghanistan and Iraq.
‘Returning combat veterans serve all the support we can give them,’ Geary Maiuri, MCC’s dean of student and community services. ‘This event is part of Macomb’s ongoing commitment to support our community’s veterans in tapping vital services and educational opportunities.’

MCC was named by G.I. Jobs magazine as one of its ‘military friendly’ schools for 2014. In addition to support and counseling, MCC also hosts annual Veterans Day ceremonies and an annual ‘Veterans Stand Down’ event that offers veterans a variety of health and social services. This year’s event is scheduled for Sept. 26 at MCC’s South Campus in Warren.
