2015 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat destroys quarter mile

First, the 2015 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat was going to be the most powerful Challenger ever. Then, it became the most powerful muscle car ever. And now? Well, it’s only fair that it’s the fastest muscle car off the line. Yes, the fastest ever.

The question was in the back of everyone’s mind when they heard that the Hellcat would carry 707 ponies and 650 lb.-ft. of torque: how will it do in the quarter mile? It is a muscle car after all, and there’s no better barometer of success for a muscle car than a good old fashioned quarter mile.

With stock tires, the Hellcat roared through the quarter mile in 11.2 seconds, as certified by the National Hot Rod Association. The time dipped to 10.8 seconds with drag radials. With these numbers nothing short of stunning, the Hellcat has firmly stamped its place as the world’s premier, and most impressive muscle car. Understandably, Dodge is pretty proud of their baby; president and CEO Tim Kuniskis said of the quarter mile news,

The new 2015 Dodge Challenger raises the bar to a level some of us never thought we’d see. With the new Challenger SRT Hellcat, we’re reaching deep into our history and bringing back the notion from the muscle car era of the street and strip dual-purpose car. Not only can Challenger run 10s on the drag strip, but you can also fit your family and drive cross country. The new 2015 Challenger is the ultimate GT muscle car.

GT muscle car is almost an oxymoron . . . but then again, when you make 707 horses and rip the strip in 11.2 seconds, you can call it whatever the heck you want.
