Snow in Cairo, Beheira, Sinai

Snow covered streets in Cairo for the first time in years following a severe cold snap that has swept the country.

According to the Meteorological Authority, the wave of bitter cold in Egypt was caused by the ongoing storm of Alexa, coming from Siberia across Eastern Europe.

Snow fell on Cairo, Beheira and St. Catherine in Sinai.

Wind speed in Beheira damaged some crops. Large amounts of water were accumulated in the streets due to the inability of drainage to discharge water.

Suez meanwhile was exposed to heavy rains on Friday morning, extending the closure of its ports.

Alexandria port authorities decided to continue closing ports before navigation for the third day in a row due to bad weather and high waves.
