CARO, MI -- A Michigan State Police helicopter was instrumental in locating a hunter who briefly went missing.

Shortly before midnight on Friday, Oct. 20, troopers from the Caro Post were dispatched to find a missing duck hunter. The 55-year-old man's wife had called 911 after he failed to come home for dinner.

Searchers believed the Frankenmuth man was on a solo hunt near Ringle Road and M-25 in Tuscola County's Akron Township. Using OnStar, troopers determined the man's vehicle was near North Cotter and Nebobish roads in Hampton Township.

Trooper 3, a helicopter crew, located the vehicle parked near a dead-end road. At approximately 12:40 a.m., troopers found the hunter.

The hunter had become disoriented and was unable to initially locate his vehicle, troopers report.
