About 200 Hydro Quebec workers have been called down to the East Coast of the United States to lend a hand due to a massive snowstorm.

The snow is causing major outages across electricity lines south of the border. The workers will be restoring downed power lines in the Long Island region of New York.

Hydro Quebec spokesperson Marc-Antoine Pouliot said the Quebec corporation was able to respond to the request because Quebec will be spared from the storm. The New York electricity company will be assuming the costs involved.

Pouliot added that the needs will be reassessed based on the power failures expected throughout the course of the storm, meaning workers may stay longer to fix the damage.
