RAVENNA, Ohio– A Portage County Sheriff’s Deputy is recovering after a serious crash on Tuesday.

Richard E. Rogers, 28, was in a Toyota Camry and stopped at state Route 14 and Lake Rockwell Road when he was hit by another car, the Ohio State Highway Patrol said. That crash pushed Rogers’ car into the path of a semi-truck.

The deputy suffered serious injuries and was taken by medical helicopter to Akron City Hospital. The other two drivers were not injured.

Deputy Rogers has been with the sheriff’s office for the past six years, according to the GoFundMe page. He is married and has a young daughter.

The highway patrol said all drivers were wearing their seatbelts, and drugs and alcohol were not factors. The crash remains under investigation.
