Summer may be officially be wedding season, but brides don’t stop walking down the aisle just because the calendar hits September. Welcome to the wonderful world of fall weddings, and the world of brand new beauty ideas that await you. And just in case you’re brain is bogged down with beachy waves, we rounded up a few inspirational tips straight from the hair and makeup pros. Whether you’re the bride-to-be, an attendant or a guest, you’ll never want for autumnal wedding inspiration again.

Update Your Lipstick
Instead of the go-to nude or pale pink lipstick, go for deeper hues for your fall wedding. Jessica Scantlin, Director of Artistry at Blushington suggests hues like dark reds and berries in matte finishes for the lips. “They look so classy and usually go more with theme of the wedding, as weddings tend to do the colors that are in season,” she notes. “So the beautiful terracotta and mauve shades many brides choose for their wedding really go beautifully with a deep lip color.”

Bring the Drama
Whether it’s smokey eye makeup in deep brown or gold shadows or bold lip colors, don’t be afraid go big. Scantlin tells us that fall brides can really take things to the next level. “They tend to get more coverage, more contour, deeper eyes and lips—everything gets bumped up a notch from summer weddings,” she tells us.

Give Bright Colors a Break
Ultimately, it’s your day and you should wear what makes you comfortable, but if you’re trying to match your makeup to the season, Scantlin suggests skipping the extremely bright hues. “Stay away from fresh, bright, and bubble gum pink colors. Don’t do super bright coral cheeks or lips when it is the fall,” she says. “You really have to think about the season and how it plays into your makeup.”

Try Out Mattes
Save the dewy look for the spring and summer. Scantlin says that matte makeup seems to be more of a fall beauty trend for brides. Try this finish for your complexion, lips, and eyes. With the right tips, handling this type of shine-free makeup is incredibly easy.

Hair Becomes Polished
Max Gierl, senior stylist, mizu New York salon, says that fall brides tend to ask for more polished hairstyles for their wedding day and less of the messy, tousled looks of summer. If you’re wearing your hair down, Gierl suggests smooth marcel waves instead of beachy waves. And control that frizz!

Elegant Updos
Instead of the super trendy undone updo, try out a polished look like a chignon. Gierl even suggests a low ponytail that holds a bit of volume. And while these are classic looks, remember that that they don’t have to be stiff and lacking personality. Gierl says they should be calmer—just not rigid. Keep yours loose and voluminous at the crown for a romantic wedding day look that’s still perfectly put together.
