New coin range for christening of Princess Charlotte

Coin: Princess Charlotte

By Tony Jones

The christening of Princess Charlotte will be marked by a range of official commemorative coins issued by the Royal Mint.

The memorabilia will be available in silver, in keeping with the tradition of crossing a newborn baby's palm with silver to confer good health and prosperity, and also in gold to mark the royal celebration.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge's baby daughter will be christened during a private ceremony in Norfolk.

Charlotte, born on May 2, will be baptised on July 5 by Archbishop of Canterbury Justin Welby at Sandringham.

The design of the coins will be approved by the parents, the Queen and the Chancellor.
