Reynaldo Rey, Friday actor, dies at 75

Comedian Reynaldo Rey, who was best known for playing Red’s father in Friday, died Thursday morning due to stroke complications, EW confirmed. He was 75 years old. Rey regularly worked in movies from 1989 (in Harlem Nights) through 2012. He also had roles in White Men Can’t Jump and House Party 3, and made appearances on Everybody Hates Chris and The Bernie Mac Show.

Rey was born in Sequoyah County, Okla., and earned a bachelor’s degree in education from Kansas State Teacher’s College. After engaging in experimental theater at Wichita University, he moved to Cleveland, taught, and joined the Karamu House Theatre. He opened for legendary comic Redd Foxx (Sanford and Son) for 18 years, with Foxx managing Rey for 12 years.
