A man was arrested after police say he bit an officer's arm and kicked at officers' legs as he was being detained.

Daniel Maxwell, 50, has been charged and arrested for Assault on a Public Servant, a 3rd Degree Felony, and Resisting Arrest, Search, or Transportation, a Class A Misdemeanor.

According to the Odessa Police Department, officers responded to the Wal-Mart on North JBS Parkway on Thursday for a call of a theft.

Once on scene police identified a suspect as Maxwell. He was then detained, during which he turned his head and bit an officer's forearm. Police say Maxwell also kicked at the officers in an attempt to avoid being transported.

Once detained Maxwell was charged and arrested accordingly.
