We have had several examples over the last year of clients with existing trademark registrations that were directed to the services provided not by the client themselves, but by duly authorised businesses in a particular trade. In some cases, the client was a trade association which allowed its members to use the marks to indicate membership of the association.

Scunthorpe!
Loven has a strong presence in the East Of England. Scunthorpe is a town located in North Lincolnshire. It is unlikely to be the first place that springs to mind when you think of the East Of England. While Scunthorpe might not be widely known for its global fame, it has several notable aspects: 1. Steel Industry: The town is home to one of the largest steel production facilities in the United Kingdom, operated by British Steel. The steelworks have been a significant employer and economic driver for the area. 2. Ironstone Mining: Scunthorpe's industrial history includes ironstone mining, which was crucial for the development of the steel industry in the region. 3. Nature Reserves: Despite its industrial heritage, Scunthorpe is surrounded by green spaces and nature reserves. Areas like Normanby Hall Country Park and the North Lincolnshire Museum provide opportunities for outdoor recreation and exploration of local history and culture. 4. Sports: Scunthorpe United Football Club, known as "The Iron," represents the town in English football. The club has a history of competing in the Football League until off the pitch difficulties resulted in the club losing its League status in April 2022. 5. Arts and Culture: The town has cultural venues such as The Baths Hall, which hosts various performances including music concerts, comedy shows, and theatrical productions. Loven’s marketing partner, Bernard Savage, saw Chas & Dave at this prestigious venue in the 1990s!

The East of England is an area in the UK with much to celebrate. It doesn’t get the publicity it should. LOVEN Patents & Trademarks has a strong client portfolio in this richly interesting region. Here are 6 things to celebrate in the East of England: 1. Historic Landmarks: the Cathedrals at Ely, Lincoln and Norwich, Framlingham Castle and Colchester Castle, Hatfield House, and Audley End House, and several notable stately homes in Lincolnshire. Celebrations may include historical re-enactments, tours, and special events. 2. Festivals: The Cambridge Folk Festival, Latitude Festival, and the Norfolk and Norwich Festival. These events celebrate music, arts, and culture and draw people from all over the country. 3. Natural Beauty: The East of England offers beautiful landscapes and coastal areas. There is stunning countryside, walks along the coastline, nature reserves and parks. 4. Agricultural Shows: The region is known for its agricultural heritage, and there are numerous agricultural shows and county fairs held throughout the year. These events celebrate the agricultural traditions, livestock, and local produce. 5. Local Cuisine: The region boasts a rich culinary heritage, with dishes like Colchester oysters, Cromer crabs, and locally brewed ales. Food festivals and events celebrate the region's culinary offerings. 6. Cultural and Arts Events: Cambridge and Norwich host theatre productions, art exhibitions, and literary events. What else is there to celebrate in this beautiful but under-the-radar region? I will gift a prize of local produce to the best answer!

Like me you were probably appalled to hear that the sycamore at Sycamore Gap had been felled. Its easy to be angry at such things is it not? But getting angry about environmental matters and pointing the finger doesn’t prompt people into action. What prompts action is providing options and constructive ways forward. Like the tree, the solution to the issue of sustainability and the environment is not there now, but at least we have some constructive ways to approach it. So what would you do now with the “situation”. ?? 1. Protect the base of the tree and allow it to sprout new growth. 2. Plant a new, better-protected tree. 3. Use the wood from the felled tree to make something useful. 4. Assess how tree protection is handled and enforced in the UK as a whole. https://lnkd.in/eJGasSaD #sustainability #Hadrianswall #sycamoregap
