Cristin Stickles has been nothing but a children's bookseller for the past 25 years. She has a lot of opinions about The Giving Tree.

In the Jane Austen-novel of my mind, I often pair up whoever writes the movie summaries for the On Demand guide channel with whoever is writing the book summaries for the New York Times Best Seller lists. Whoever those two are, they are clearly made for each other, and I hope they have a very long and vaguely-worded future together. Below are the Times descriptions of best selling YA novels. Can you tell what book they’re talking about?

1. Aliens land on earth and the apocalypse begins.

2. What it’s like to grow up, from the perspective of a high school boy.

3. After a night of mischief, the girl Quentin loves disappears.

4. A well-born girl and a poor boy clash, then fall in love, in a postapocalyptic Los Angeles.

5. For 35 girls, a chance to escape a life laid out since birth.

6. An assassin in 15th-century France.

7. Rory must stop ghosts from killing more people in London.

8. Little Red Riding Hood encounters a cyborg.

9. Love among the lupine.

10. History and fantasy blend in the tale of a 17-year-old street urchin.
