CAA Football Players of the Week -- Sept. 12
RICHMOND, Va. (September 12, 2011) -- CAA Football announced its Player of the Week honorees, Monday, Sept. 12. Four individuals earned honors after showcasing superb efforts in contests played in Week 2 of the 2011 season, including New Hampshire's Matt Evans and Joey Orlando, Old Dominion's Colby Goodwyn and Towson's Terrance West.
CAA Football Offensive Player of the Week - Colby Goodwyn, RB, Old Dominion
Goodwyn picked up CAA Football Offensive Player of the Week honors after leading Old Dominion to a 40-17 win at Georgia State. The sophomore carried the ball 26 times for 190 yards and a touchdown, marking the second-highest rushing total in ODU's short program history. The yardage mark is also the highest CAA Football total since New Hampshire's Dontra Peters rattled off 197 yards against Central Connecticut State Sept. 4 last season. Goodwyn, who also hauled in one catch for five yards, logged three rushes of 20-or-more yards in the win including a 53-yarder in the fourth quarter.
CAA Football Defensive Player of the Week - Matt Evans, LB, New Hampshire
Evans logged 24 tackles in New Hampshire 48-41 overtime win at Lehigh to earn CAA Football Defensive Player of the Week honors. Seventeen of the junior's 24 stops went unassisted, while he also made one stop behind the line of scrimmage for a loss of one yard. Evans' total of 24 stops is the most by a CAA Football athlete since Richmond's Adam Goloboski made 26 tackles against Delaware in 2004 (Nov. 13).
CAA Football Special Teams Player of the Week - Joey Orlando, PR/WR, New Hampshire
Orlando earned CAA Football Special Teams Player of the Week honors following the Wildcats' 48-41 overtime win at Lehigh. The junior was instrumental by offensively and on special teams units scoring a total of 18 points in the victory. On special teams Orlando accounted for 54 punt return yards on two attempts including a 56-yard return for a touchdown in the third quarter. The punt return for a touchdown was the first by a New Hampshire player since Corey Graham's 51-yarder against Stony Brook in 2006. Orlando's offensive contributions were equally impressive logging 10 receptions for 166 yards and two touchdowns.
CAA Football Rookie of the Week - Terrance West, RB, Towson
West scored the first two touchdowns of his career in helping Towson to its first CAA Football victory since 2009, a 31-10 win over Villanova. His offensive output for the Tigers earned him CAA Football Rookie of the Week accolades. The Baltimore, Md., native carried the ball a team-high 11 times for 40 yards, scoring on runs of two yards and four yards. Towson's victory moved the program to a 2-0 start for the first time since 2007, and snapped a four-game losing skid to Villanova (last win over the Wildcats came in 2006).
