5 Reasons to Never Doubt the Cloud Again

5 Reasons to Never Doubt the Cloud Again

According to Forbes, Cloud Computing has reached mainstream, and it’s not planning on moving anytime soon. More than half of all U.S. businesses have fully integrated into the cloud. It seems like every enterprise is teaching the cloud’s efficiency, but, if it can benefit almost everyone, why isn't that percentage higher? Any business wanting to move to the cloud can be assured that it has a range of well-costed reasons to make the change. But making those decisions isn’t always easy, and will involve a variety of factors: here are five prime reasons why a company would look to make the change.

1) Cost

Simply put, the cloud is cheaper. Because cloud computing allows the ability to pay for only what's being used, cost savings will always be a factor when looking to switch to the cloud- as it should be.

Large cloud providers are able to benefit from huge economies from scale and thus be able to offer more computing power at a lower cost.

2) Data Integration

Companies use a mixed lot of technologies- an application salad, if you will. You have the lettuce program, the cherry tomato application, Adobe Ranch Dressing, and Toasted Garlic Microsoft Croutons to top it all off. Cloud programs allow you to have every piece of technology housed together, to make everyone's lives easier.

The Cloud provides a common platform for such integration to take place across, infrastructure services, data, management, identity and development.

3) Investment

Services delivered via cloud allow costs to become more controlled, and more accurately executed. Having a cloud-based infrastructure during a time when angel investors aren't exactly growing on trees is instant headache relief, not to mention that, with customized program integration, expensive equipment will begin to be phased out. Why not invest in what is becoming the standard now instead of having to catch up later?

Such a move allows CIOs to plan much more efficiently as decisions about server life expectancy are taken by cloud providers so CIOs are always working with modern and energy-efficient equipment.

4) Scalability

Coping with the highs and lows of supply and demand during holidays around the fiscal year is arguably the biggest challenge that any business will face. Cloud-based technological infrastructures will allow businesses to gain greater flexibility and agility by tacking on a huge increase in competitive advantage.

5) Security

A controversy in cloud security isn't new at all- in fact, it's an argument with so much history that it's beginning to get 'cloudy' itself. But a survey from AlertLogic found that there is no justification for the belief that cloud-based computing infrastructures are any less secure than on-site providers. In fact, there is evidence to support that it might even be the opposite. According to Forbes...

... cloud providers claim they are more secure than on-premise infrastructures, thanks to a combination of economies of scale, more specialized staff, and greater emphasis on security.

Katherine, I would say that we're using processing, but I don't know that we are 100% involved with Cloud Computing. Is your platform 100% in the cloud?
