Your Opportunity

Stantec is seeking a creative and motivated Urban Designer/Planner to join our Multimodal Planning Group in Raleigh, North Carolina. The candidate will support the group’s growing local and national practice and work directly with industry-leading transportation engineers and planners. Preferred candidate will have a strong interest in conceptual design, public engagement, and communications, with a background in planning, engineering, landscape architecture, or urban design. Candidates must be willing to travel and ideally have a valid driver’s license.

The ideal candidate will be experienced or interested in the development of client-facing materials, constructing project websites, attending public meetings, and internal resource management. Technical experience with at least one of these key software programs is a requirement: Adobe Creative Suite, SketchUp, ArcGIS, AutoCAD, and/or MicroStation. Above all, the successful candidate will be self-motivated and curious, have a friendly, outgoing demeanor, able to multitask, ask questions to improve and learn from feedback. This opportunity will be full-time, working as part of a multidisciplinary project team with professionals from transportation, planning, and engineering disciplines.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Technical writing, and summary of project-record notes/files
  • Report creation and editing in Adobe InDesign
  • Graphic or rendering development with Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator
  • Model building in SketchUp
  • AutoCAD concept design (10-15% design)
  • Map creation or analysis with ArcGIS Desktop and ArcGIS Online
  • Maintaining a highly organized project file environment
  • Assist with facilitation of public workshop events
  • Assist with entry level planning &/or design duties, as needed

Your Capabilities and Credentials

  • Experience with Adobe Creative Suite software such as Photoshop, InDesign, and Illustrator are required
  • Experience with AutoCAD, SketchUp &/or ArcGIS Desktop software preferred
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Self-motivated and highly organized
  • Adaptive to new software programs and web platforms
  • Comprehensive approach to challenges and problem-solving
  • Strong research skills and open to feedback
  • Must have a good driving record and valid driver’s license

Education and Experience:  Bachelor’s degree in one Planning, Design, or Engineering with 0-7 years of experience. Transportation concentration or strong interest in urban design or transportation planning is ideal. Typical office environment working with computers. Some travel may be required (add in expected travel %), such as delivering plans or documents to reviewing agencies or clients or to attend meetings. May occasionally visit study areas, construction sites and/or be exposed to outside elements and inclement weather conditions.
