North Vancouver RCMP and firefighters responded to the carpet and flooring store on the 1500-block of Main Street just after noon Tuesday after a chain reaction collision resulted in a parked car smashing through the storefront.

It started with the driver of a westbound Lexus who witnesses said was driving erratically.

“She said she heard a bang and swerved to the right, hitting a white Volkswagen… She continued to veer to the right up onto the sidewalk, over the sidewalk, striking an unoccupied black Chevy,” said Cpl. Richard De Jong, North Vancouver RCMP spokesman. “The black chev was then pushed through the storefront window at the End of the Roll causing significant property damage.”

One of the drivers was taken to hospital with minor injuries, De Jong said.

A District of North Vancouver building inspector visited the site and determined the building remained safe to occupy, although the main window has been boarded up.

The investigation is still ongoing but it’s unlikely anyone will be called onto the carpet.

“It looks like it could be a medical incident that caused the person to swerve,” De Jong said.

Even a minor medical issue can lead to a driver panicking and overreacting behind the wheel, De Jong said.
